This statement provides the general criteria for reappointment, tenure and promotion adopted by the CUNY Board of Trustees. No other criteria can be developed or used by academic programs, departments, or divisions for the consideration or personnel actions.

APPOINTMENT OF UNIVERSITY DISTINGUISHED PROFESSORS
A candidate for the title of Distinguished Professor must receive positive recommendation by the relevant Department, P&B, Faculty Committee on Personnel Matters, Review Committee, the President and the University. CUNY procedures for the nomination of candidates for the title of Distinguished Professor are described on the website listed below.
APPOINTMENT OF PRESIDENTIAL PROFESSORS
The title of Presidential Professors is conferred on an individual by the President of City College in recognition of exceptional scholarly achievements. A faculty member applying for University Distinguished Professor may also apply for the appointment to Presidential Professor. However, to nominate someone as Presidential Professor, the person must be concurrently approved for Distinguished Professor at all levels inside the College.
