    Semblanza de la Literatura Mexicana Actual will have simultaneous interpretation (Spanish-English).

    City College President Lisa S. Coico has established a historic agreement with the Mexican government that will enable the college to host Cátedra Cultura de México, a series of Mexican culture lectures, on campus and throughout New York City.  The first three-day conference will be held April 23-25 at two City College locations and the Instituto Cervantes New York.

    This initiative will promote Mexico’s greatest artistic and intellectual productions in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
    The agreement will have City College host the Mexican Culture Lecture Series every semester for three years.

    Semblanza de la Literatura Mexicana Actual/Contemporary Mexican Literature:An Overview is part of the Cátedra Cultura de México (Mexican Culture Series). 

    Angelina Muñiz-Huberman, Ph.D., will serve as keynote speaker. Muñiz-Huberman is a novelist, poet and literary critic who has published a total of 45 books. Her academic work covers the New Historical Novel, the Jewish mysticism in Mexican literature and the Spanish Republican exile. She has been awarded major prizes such as: Woman of Valor Award (Hispanic Federation, American Sephardi Federation, Consulate General of Israel), Xavier Villaurrutia, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (Guadalajara International Book Fair), National University Award, Order of Isabel la Católica, Honorary Member of the Mexican Cultural Seminar, among others, and translated into various languages. Some of her work appears on The Oxford Book of Jewish Stories; The Schocken Book of Modern Sephardic Literature; Tropical Synagogues; With Signs & Wonders and The Scroll and The Cross among many other mayor anthologies. Some of her books published in English are: The Confidantes, A Mystical Journey and Enclosed Garden. She is also a recipient of the National Endowment for the Culture and the Arts (Mexico).

    Cátedra Cultura de México (Mexican Culture Series) is sponsored by The MA program in the Study of the Americas, CUNY Institute of Mexican Studies and Instituto Cervantes New York. The conference will have simultaneous interpretation (Spanish-English).
