Caitlin Condon
New York Life Graduate Scholar, 2012-2013
Caitlin Condon joined the Department of Civil Engineering at the Grove School of Engineering in Fall 2011 to pursue a doctorate in environmental engineering. She holds a bachelor’s degree in hydrology from the University of California at Davis. During her senior year, she conducted independent research investigating agricultural soils as a source of organic carbon in surface waters. This sparked her interest in how anthropogenic activity threatens water supplies in the United States and abroad. At City College, Caitlin will investigate how emerging man-made contaminants found in public fresh water supplies are transformed during drinking water purification. She is also interested in the link between socioeconomic status and exposure to environmental risk. She hopes to use education and policy as tools to promote environmental justice. She teaches environmental science as an adjunct lecturer at the Bronx Community College, and has been able to learn from her students the social, economic, and environmental issues facing young people in New York City.
