Nur Afsar
Partners for Change Fellow (health issues)
Nur Afsar is a third-year medical student at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. She hopes to become a primary care physician and to work with immigrant populations, survivors of torture who seek refuge in the United States, and less fortunate populations internationally. A medical mission to Honduras, where Nur addressed the basic health-care needs of families in poverty, strengthened her passion for global health. She is also passionate about human rights issues and hopes to become a leading physician for human rights and to work on issues such as world hunger and sex trafficking. Currently, Nur is a patient advocacy volunteer in Emergency Research Services at Bellevue Hospital. Also co-president of the CCNY Chapter of American Medical Students Association (AMSA), she has led many seminars and events, and facilitated nutritional workshops for middle school children at StreetSquash, an initiative to combat the child obesity epidemic in Harlem.
