Partners for Change Fellow (health issues)
Nur Afsar is a third-year medical student at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. She hopes to become a primary care physician and to work with immigrant populations, survivors of torture who seek refuge in the United States, and less fortunate populations internationally.

Salma Asous, a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, is a student at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. Her goal is to become a physician who best serves her community by understanding the people who comprise it.

Eduardo Dueñas, a native of the Bronx, is majoring in psychology and minoring in English at City College. Eduardo has a passion for helping members of underrepresented groups build the foundation for success now required in today’s and tomorrow’s societies.

Partners for Change Fellow (urban sustainability)
Eliza Eckstein is an undergraduate majoring in biology. Born and raised in New York City, she has a passion for environmental advocacy and has long aspired to extend the connections between the natural world and urban environments. Eliza participates in CCNY’s secondary education program and works as a volunteer education docent at the Prospect Park Zoo.

Partners for Change Fellow (health issues)
Syed Haider, a native of Pakistan, is a junior majoring in biology at City College. He became interested in medicine on visits to a neurologist with his grandmother. As an aspiring physician, Syed considers public policy to be an avenue through which medicine can change people’s lives.

Partners for Change Fellow (college access)
Rakim Amalu Jenkins, a native of Brooklyn and a Mellon Mays Fellow at City College, is pursuing a double major in sociology and Black studies. Seeing the hardships facing his community propelled him to seek education as a path to change his family and neighbors’ circumstances.

Partners for Change Fellow (urban sustainability)
Ruth Lopez, raised in Peru, is a senior at Spitzer School of Architecture and a member of the Honors Program at City College. Having developed an interest in architecture at an early age, Ruth has competed in design competitions including Peace Pentagon: A Call to Action, and ACSA/AISC Steel Design Student Competition.

Jamiela McDonnough, the youngest child of Jamaican immigrants, is a senior majoring in biology with a minor in studio art. A native of South Hempstead, New York, Jamiela graduated from South Side High School with an International Baccalaureate Degree and has long had a passion for serving others.

Rebecca Panko, a biology major, has recognized the importance of preserving the natural world from a very young age. The daughter of park rangers, she was born in Shenandoah National Park and has lived on both Liberty Island (home of the Statue of Liberty) and just outside Everglades National Park in Florida.

Partners for Change Fellow (urban sustainability)
Eduarda Rosario, a native of the Dominican Republic, is pursuing a double major in pre-law and Italian language and literature at City College. She has participated in two environmental research projects, one with the Earthwatch Institute in the rainforests of Costa Rica, and another with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in the deciduous forests of Edgewater, Maryland.

Karla Tevez, a first-generation Salvadoran-American, is a political science major with a longstanding interest in politics, public policy, and the law. Karla also recognizes the importance of education, and this awareness drives her desire to find solutions to the dilemmas that inner-city students face.
