Born in Houston to immigrant parents from Guinea, in West Africa, Abdullah Beretay is a history major at CCNY. His focus is Africa’s social and political movements and its diaspora, and he hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in African history. A national debate competitor in high school, Abdullah also has been an award-winning high school debate instructor. He coached regionally and nationally competitive high school programs and summer debate institutes, and these experiences have informed his understanding of domestic and international policymaking. Abdullah hopes to teach at the university level and create or participate in programs that give underprivileged youth access to academic resources and opportunities.
