Jatnna Ramirez
New York Life Undergraduate Scholar, 2011-2013
 Jatnna Ramiez, a political science major, migrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic at the age 12. Jatnna enjoys learning about people and how they make decisions and build communities, and is thrilled to be part of a diverse community. Jatnna is deeply interested in and committed to issues of education, and says quality education is the best tool for empowerment and progress. Jatnna has served as a student leader with the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition since 2007. In this capacity, she has worked as a media spokesperson and community organizer focusing on the issue of school overcrowding. She also organized and mentored high school students around this issue. These experiences have shown Jatnna what can be accomplished when people work together, and she believes deeply that through community organizing and good political leadership individuals can impact public policy. Jatnna’s goal is be part of the organizing and leadership dedicated to improving society.
