Subha Ahmed is an anthropology and international studies major who intends to pursue a doctorate in cultural anthropology.  Her grandfather graduated from City College in 1942, and in 2006 she chose to follow in his footsteps.  Subha has worked with youth for the past five years at organizations such as the YMCA and the Schomburg Library, and she says helping young people overcome hardship has been among her most rewarding experiences. Subha’s deep interest in culture and young people drives her to deepen her understanding of socio-economic issues related to educational issues in Harlem. This fall, she will conduct a comparison of four public schools to explore the affects of zoning in Harlem and on the Upper West Side. Eventually, she plans to conduct a cross-cultural comparison of the achievement gap among black youth in developed and underdeveloped countries.
