Simone Gordon
Colin Powell Fellow, 2011-2013
Simone Gordon, a native of Jamaica, is pursing a childhood education major with a minor in Social Studies. Simone has developed a strong interest in public service and policy, both through an internship with Jumpstart, where she helps preschoolers develop school readiness and as a senator in CCNY's Undergraduate Student Government. Simone volunteers actively both at neighboring elementary schools and at her local church. Through these activities, she has come to believe that serving and working in a low-income community is one of her responsibilities. Simone's goal is to establish an after-school recreational and educational center for children in a low-income community, where such services are scarce. Additionally, through policy changes, she hopes to ensure adequate distribution and allocation of resources for children and their families.
