About Us

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is the university body charged with the responsibility for reviewing the university's program for the humane care and use of animals. The IACUC provides oversight for all animals used for teaching and research purposes.The IACUC operates in accordance with federal and state polices set forth in the following:

1. The "Public health Service Policy on the Humane care and Use of Laboratory Animals" (PHS 1986) 

2. "The Guide For the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (ILAR 1996) 

3. The USDA Animal Welfare Act  (CFR 1985)

The committee is comprised of at least 5 members; a veterinarian experienced in laboratory animal research, a scientist , a non-scientist, and an individual who has no affiliation with the institution other than IACUC membership . The Institutional Official (IO) appoints IACUC members.
