As a key member of the executive management team, the Assistant Vice President oversees one or more College functions to fulfill comprehensive program goals and contributes to overall College strategic objectives. He/she plans and implements a range of successful programs; and oversees staff, budget, operations, and facilities.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION 

The City College of New York (CCNY) of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Provost for Research.

CCNY was the first free public institution of higher education in the United States and has been committed to the dual goals of accessibility and academic quality since its founding in 1847. The College campus occupies thirty-five tree-lined acres along Convent Avenue from 131st to 141st Street in the Borough of Manhattan. It has an international reputation for its ability to promote scholarly excellence in students of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and economic circumstances.

Over 12,000 undergraduate students and 2,500 graduate students are enrolled. Its colleges and schools include the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with its divisions of humanities and the arts, social science, science, and interdisciplinary studies; the Spitzer School of Architecture; the Grove School of Engineering; the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education; and the School of Education. CCNY's engineering, architecture and biomedical education programs are unique within the City University. The College offers more than 115 undergraduate and graduate majors including doctoral degrees in biomedical, chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering. It offers Ph.D. degrees in engineering and also offers Ph.D. degrees in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and physics jointly with the City University of New York's Graduate School and University Center.

Its over 500 full-time faculty are recognized for their excellence as scholars and teachers, and the ranks of full-time, tenure track faculty are planned to increase during the next four years.

Last year, CCNY's annual research funding reached $60 million, leading the senior colleges in the City University system in external research funding. The general areas of research and scholarship have traditionally focused on disciplines in the sciences, engineering, biomedical education, social science, humanities, arts, and education.

With a major investment of more than a quarter billion dollars from the State of New York, the construction of world-class science research facilities is underway at the CCNY campus. Two new science research buildings - one for The City College of New York science research program and a CUNY-wide Advanced Science Research Center that will serve scientists from throughout the City University system - will yield nearly 400,000 square feet for state-of-the-art laboratories and offices, imaging facilities, an electron microscopy vivarium, as well as a café and lecture hall. Together with the adjacent New York Structural Biology Center, the buildings will form a research hub that will provide outstanding opportunities for faculty and science students.

The Associate Provost will report directly to the Provost with the following responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for promoting, developing, and reviewing research and scholarship throughout the College. Contribute to the development of strategies and programs for the support and expansion of the CCNY comprehensive research agenda. This will entail working closely with faculty and administrators to promote, encourage, and facilitate research and scholarly activities. His/her efforts will be aimed at expanding research activities in all academic areas and developing new institutional research programs.
- Overall responsibility for research administration including oversight of the Office of Research Administration, the Grants Officer and research policies at the College. This will include ensuring compliance with applicable Federal, State and University rules and laws as well as research integrity, compliance, safety, and export control. Supervision and coordination of the Human Research Protection Program/Institutional Review Board activities and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the animal research facilities.
- Play a central role in research relationships and advocacy with the federal government, industry, foundations, and international sponsors.
- Responsible for administering and monitoring all policies and procedures related to research, technology transfer, and economic development. Foster the creation, management and technology transfer of intellectual property.
- Coordinate and monitor the use of research facilities and be responsible for the implementation of the college research space use and allocation and college wide research core facilities.
- Coordinate the interdisciplinary research efforts and undergraduate research programs.
- Develop and report research performance metrics for the College community and external stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College. 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The Associate Provost shall possess an earned doctorate and qualify for the rank of full Professor in one of the departments of the College, with an established record in funded research and a demonstrated commitment to the College's historic mission of promoting academic access and excellence. A minimum of eight years related experience required. Other requirements include research administration experience; familiarity with the role of federal, state, local and non-governmental agencies in funding research; understanding research security issues and budget structures; and a demonstrable record in successfully building collaborative research ventures.
