GENERAL
DUTIES The
Assistant Dean administers one or more key College programs. He/she
develops, implements, and assesses programs and services to produce high-quality
results and meet strategic goals. He/she also coordinates activities
among different units, and with areas outside the College, and may oversee
staff, budget, operations, and facilities. CONTRACT

SPECIFIC INFORMATION The
Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education seeks an Executive Director for its
Physician Assistant (PA) Program at the Harlem Hospital Center. Reporting
to the Dean of the Sophie Davis School, the successful candidate assumes full
responsibility for the administration of the program. We seek a
visionary, energetic educator with a record of efficient and inspirational
leadership and a commitment to academic excellence and inter-professional education.
This is an exciting opportunity to head a Program comprised of a dedicated
staff and a motivated student body. It has a reputation for excellence
that has earned national acclaim for performance and a broad network of
clinical sites for clerkships. In addition to the PA Program, the Sophie
Davis School houses a BS/MD program, therefore offering the opportunity for an
innovative and creative approach to inter-professional education.
As chief executive of the PA program, the individual provides direction and
leadership in the supervision, coordination and long-range planning for all
aspects of the academic and educational operations. This includes:
- Operational oversight; support and implementation of policies and procedures
to meet program goals through services and academic support for the students;
coordination of programmatic activities with the medical director of Harlem
Hospital and other hospitals affiliated with the Program.
- Facilitating collaboration and integration of the PA program with the school's
BS/MD program.
- Providing direction of the activities for administrative staff, faculty,
clinical coordinator (full-time employees) in addition to adjunct faculty.
- Fiscal management of the program and preparation of capital budgets of over
$1 million.
- Implementing and evaluating curricula, instructional and educational programs
associated with academic progress of students.
- Establishing, monitoring and maintaining standards in compliance with
accrediting agencies.

Qualifications and Requirements
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS This
position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions
require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related
experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College. OTHER
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum
qualifications are Bachelor degree and certification by the National Commission
on Certification of Physician Assistants with a minimum of eight (8) years of
experience in physician assistant education or in health-related discipline as
well as highly desirable skills and experience in administration and
accreditation of academic programs. Master's or Ph.D. degree is strongly
preferred. Strong clinical and academic experience is a must; a
successful record of developing proposals for funding, excellent communication,
experience and interest in inter-professional education are highly
desirable. The successful candidate must have a commitment to diversity,
multiculturalism and affirmative action and must be sensitive to and possess
interest in working with minority students in an urban educational setting in
New York.
