Position Description and Duties

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Civil Engineering of the City College of New York/CUNY is seeking to fill a faculty position in structural mechanics and materials with specific expertise in advanced sustainable materials for green buildings and infrastructure. The candidate should have a demonstrated research and achievements record in analytical and experimental mechanics of structural materials and systems. Appointment at the Assistant or Associate level is expected, beginning Fall-semester 2013. The candidate should complement current expertise in the Department, and play a significant role in the development of a long-term research program on energy-efficient and sustainable materials for the protection and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure systems and the design of new structures. The successful candidate is expected to develop quality scholarship through refereed publications, externally funded research program, excellent classroom teaching, and service activities at the national and college levels.

The City College of New York (CCNY) is a flagship campus of the City University of New York (CUNY), located between W130th and W140th streets in Manhattan. The Department of Civil Engineering at the CCNY Grove School of Engineering offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering (http://www.ccny.cuny.edu/engr/ce) and houses several CCNY and CUNY leading centers and institutes such as the University Transportation Research Center, NOAA-CREST, the Institute for Transportation Systems, the Environmental Crossroads Initiative, and the Center for Water Resources & Environmental Research. In addition to substantial external funding for centers and institutes, current research funding for CE faculty is approximately $6M. The department currently has 20 full-time faculty members in three areas of concentration (Structures, Transportation, and Environmental/Water Resources). The Department has competitive computational and experimental research facilities that are expected to be enhanced and expanded with the addition of this new faculty position.



Qualifications and Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements for this position include Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering. Desirable qualifications include professional experience in structural design and construction, particularly for buildings and bridges, and also P.E. license and/or LEED AP certification.
