Admission
New first-year students will be considered for the program if they have applied to the Macaulay Honors College at The City College (see below) or if they have applied for scholarships at City College using the scholarship application available for downloading from www.ccny.cuny.edu under the headings Prospective Student/Admissions/Scholarships. Students applying via the Macaulay Honors College need not submit a regular CUNY admissions application. Students applying using the City College Scholarship form must also submit a regular CUNY application form (available at http://cuny.edu), indicating City College as their college of choice.
A small number of incoming transfer and continuing students are admitted to the program at the discretion of the director. To be considered these students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and should have at least five general education (core) course requirements remaining, depending on their majors. Transfer students must have applied for admission to City College (online at http://cuny.edu) and submitted the City College scholarship application (download from http://ccny.cuny.edu under the headings Prospective Student/Admissions/Scholarships. Continuing students are considered only for fall term admission. They should submit the
City College Continuing Student Honors Program Application, which is available here, or from the Honors Center (cityhonors@ccny.cuny.edu).
Requirements Students in the City College Honors Program complete their general education (core) requirements in honors core courses. All students entering fall 2007 semester (except B.A. students) in the City College Honors Program take five prescribed core courses. Additional required courses vary depending on the student’s degree objective. For B.A. students enrolling fall 2007 semester or later, the revised core requires completion of the same number of courses, but these courses meet different criteria. In honors, the courses will remain substantially the same.
Retention Criteria Retention in the honors program requires full-time status and a cumulative 3.0 G.P.A. Upon successful completion of the honors program, the designation “Liberal Arts Honors” is entered on the student’s transcript.
