HOW TO APPLY
PLEASE NOTE: THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS NOW MARCH 1st!
To apply to the MFA in Media Arts Production program, you will need to submit all of the following materials:
1) Submit The MFA Supplemental Application:
This is where you select your specialization (Writing/Directing for Fiction or Writing/Directing for Documentary), and upload your statements. Your "project" statement (please limit to 1 page) must address: story (a brief outline), what you are trying to convey thematically, proposed length, format, and estimated budget ALL applicants are required to indicate a secondary area of interest (from Camera/Lighting, Editing or Producing/Production Management). Media production is a collaborative art and it is a requirement for the degree to work in a primary support role on ONE other thesis project (in addition to the one you will write and direct). In this "secondary area of interest" statement, (please limit to 1 page) indicate which area you are interested in and briefly explain your reasons FOR THAT INTEREST as well as any prior experience in the profession.
2) Submit a Video Portfolio (required) & Interactive Media/Screenplays (optional):
To be considered for the MFA program, you must demonstrate your abilities in Media Arts Production. To support your application to the program, you must provide URL’s to where we can review your video portfolio work online (via Vimeo, YouTube, etc). A screenplay (uploaded as PDF file) or an interactive digital media samples (as additional URL's) may also be submitted in addition to the film/video work as secondary material.
3) Submit The City College of New York/CUNY Graduate Application:
This application includes your $125 application fee, 2 letters of recommendation (academic) on letterhead, official transcripts from all undergraduate schools previously attended. GRE test scores are NOT required. International applicants must ALSO submit official English translations of transcripts and a minimum standard TOEFL score of 575 (or 233 computerized or 91 IBT) is required for admission. We do required a $250 deposit of all students accepted into the program.

Note to International Students - Although the application process does not begin until December 1st, we strongly suggest that you begin to request your official transcripts (and translations, if applicable) from your institutions, and take the TOEFL test as early as possible, in order to avoid delay on the review of your application. Please also allow for additional time for your application material to travel via mail to the U.S. Please be advised that All application material, official documents, transcripts, and scores MUST be "received" (not postmarked by) on or before the deadline: March 1st.
