Pricelis Perraux studies on the Mediterranean.

Senior, Education

My Experience Summary:

This past summer I embarked on a Voyage on the MV Explorer with Semester at Sea. We went to Spain, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, and Morocco. I attended classes on the ship when the ship was at sea and then I would explore the beautiful countries once we reached each port. I was taking Intro to Anthropology and Studies in Poetry which coincided with many experiences that I was faced with during my adventures in each country. I met phenomenal people and learned more than I ever thought I could. Experienced life, real laughter, authentic love, phenomenal history, breathtaking ruins, and majestic sights. It's a summer I will never forget and I would recommend anyone to sail on with Semester at Sea at least one time in your life.

Why I went:

I've been wanting to do it since my Freshmen year of college when my Professor for Hip Hop Politics spoke of it during class one day. I applied as soon as she told me about it and because of some obstacles, I wasn't able to do it for Summer 2008 or 2009 but finally got my opportunity to sail with Semester at Sea in Summer 2010.

I mean who wouldn't want to live on a ship for 10 weeks during the summer, take two classes, see three continents, learn different cultures, watch the sunset in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, and learn oneself?

What I Learned:

I gained more love in my life, I gained more knowledge in my mind, I gained more wisdom in my words, I gained a better idea of what the world really is and I gained experiences to share with everyone or anyone I come in contact with because sharing stories with each other is how we all grow, evolve and make this world a better place by learning from one another.

I Remember:

Seeing the Pyramids of Egypt was the most incredible thing I've seen so far. I also had many great experiences in each port but my favorites were walking around the most beautiful park I've ever seen in my life, Park Guell in Barcelona, Spain. Also, going to a village in the mountains of Dubrovnik, Croatia and seeing Croatians dance their native dance, eat some incredible Croatian food and experience people and a country for what it really is as opposed to feeling like a tourist.

Advice For Others:

See the world, it's too beautiful for you not to.
